a day in the life

Yesterday was the most splendiferous day in a long time. The sun was out early, so Natasha, Locke and I dropped Wes off at the bus stop, then walked our 2.5 mile regular loop through two parks. Sunny northwest days are un-surpassable in beauty.

After our walk, we headed home and I raked all the pinecones and needles in the entire front yard and put them all in the yard debris container (while Tasha and Locke ran up and down the sidewalk and talked to neighbors). We live in Lake Oswego, where it is a crime to cut down a tree, so you can imagine how many pine needles and cones were involved. After that, we headed to the back yard–Tasha was in her bathing suit by now–where I proceeded to weed around the entire patio and half of the spot where I”m going to plant a vegetable garden next month.

By that time we were ready for lunch, so we headed in and ate, and then I put the kids down for their nap.

Then I basked in the sun in the backyard for almost an hour, talking to my sister about on the phone (bliss).

That kids ran all over the neighborhood with their posse that afternoon. At 5:00 Wes had Karate so we dropped him off ¬†and Tasha, Locke & I (along with two neighbor kids) played at a nearby park for an hour, and by played I mean I chased Locke all over the playground and alternately gave three different kids underdogs on their swings. Glorious! We also brought a picnic dinner with us, and by picnic dinner I mean I drove through McDonald”s on the way there and bought four cheeseburgers. You really shouldn”t show up at a Lake Oswego park with a McDonald”s bag, but I”ve never really minded a few raised eyebrows.

Needless to say, I collapsed on the couch when I got home. The kids played outside in the waning sunlight until almost bedtime, them tumbled in just in time to fall into their beds.

Why am I telling you all this? Because that was a RARE Oregon spring day! Today we were back to cozy, rainy Oregon; practically every activity that happened yesterday can”t happen today. So I was so excited this morning to see my friend Megan had posted a naptime workout on her blog! I didn”t wait until naptime; the kids and I did this workout together this morning, and it was a blast. As I jogged from room to room, I actually picked up the entire house. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

p.s. I did the entire workout 1.5 times. In between, I gulped a glass of water & changed a poopy diaper. Oh the glamour of it all!
