who knew

One time I saw my mom throw one of these kitchen sponges into her dishwasher as she was about to wash a load of dishes. “You can run those through a dishwasher??” I inquired. She assured me that she runs them through periodically, only switching to a new sponge when the current one starts to break down and fall apart.

Since then, I run all sorts of things through the dishwasher. If it’s plastic and it lives at my house, it has probably been through the sanitize cycle. Things I have run through: certain toys, plastic hairbrushes, toothbrushes…OK, I even ran my toilet brush/holder through on the sanitize cycle. By itself. My mom was disgusted when I told her this. Isn’t running it through on the sanitize cycle all by itself all right??

I know, I know, none of you is ever going to come to dinner at my house again.

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever run through your dishwasher?

Well I personally haven’t run that many strange things through our dishwasher at home but our chief dishwasher at work has run both a toaster & waffle iron through the industrial size dishwasher! I don’t recommend it.

My dad once ran his baseball hat through the dishwasher.

I’m sooo going to run my kitchen sponges through the dishwasher from now on! I don’t ever think to put non-dish items in to wash… my husband does though. His worst one ever: a large dusty CANDLE. Oh my word, everything was covered in wax. For WEEKS. Hahaha.

A friend told me to put my Crocs in the dishwasher to clean them. I’m not sure I can bring myself to do it, though.
