bokeh

Look at that! It’s not an iPhone photo. I’m actually sitting at my computer, uploading pics from the Rebel while all three children sleep.

Last month, The Pioneer Woman did one of her photography contests and introduced me to the term “bokeh”, which refers to the out of focus portion of a photograph.

No, I did not enter the contest. Look at her entries. They are lightyears better than mine.

I did, however, spend the better part of one evening taking photos of that silly ornament suspended from a lamp shade in front of our Christmas Tree.

I used our 50mm Portrait lens, aka the Nifty Fifty, to capture this look, which also happens to be the lens we use for our Christmas Card every year. You don’t really need mad photography skills to take a good Christmas Card photo, but you do need a nice camera and a 50mm lens. It’s also helpful to have a husband who researches the heck out of cameras/lenses before purchasing one.

When Locke came home from the hospital, I decided we needed to practice bokeh on him, too.

I've entered a few of her photo contest in vain! Seriously, some of the submitted pictures ought to be tested for authenticity. How do they look that amazing? Good job on the bokeh. I practiced that over Christmas.
